About Stoke College

Stoke College is a co-ed day and boarding Senior school between Cambridge, Colchester and Bury St Edmunds. We are set in tranquil Suffolk parkland overlooking the upper reaches of the river Stour.

We have an illustrious history. The name ‘Stoke College’ first appeared in 1415, when a scholarly college for priests was re-founded on the site. The last Dean of the College was Matthew Parker, Master of Corpus Christi College in Cambridge, and the first Archbishop of Canterbury who helped to establish the Church of England.

Today, Stoke College continues as a place that inspires learning. We are led by Dr Gareth Lloyd, who was previously Head of Ratcliffe College and St Joseph’s College, Cardiff. Alongside our new owners, he is determined that excellent education should be accessible to a wide range of pupils and is leading us in becoming a model of high quality, affordable independent education. Our owners are committed to investing in the success of the school, including new buildings, infrastructure and technology.

We believe that students’ academic attainment is paramount but that it is a ‘whole education’ that helps a child become the person they should be. We are a school with a global outlook and believe that Sixth Form education, in particular, is where this should be most evident. At the heart of our Sixth Form are two new initiatives: the Mark Wang Scholarships and the Stoke College Global Competencies Diploma.

The Mark Wang Scholarships will allow pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds to have access to a high quality education and support into the country’s leading universities. We are offering 20 pupils 100% fully funded day and boarding scholarships to enable this to happen.

The Stoke College Global Competencies Diploma is a completely unique diploma developed by Stoke College. The programme complements any combination of A-Level studies and will educate students about global politics, economies, leadership, cultures and languages. It also provides hands on practical lessons in areas such as financial management, work IT and healthy living. Students will leave Stoke College not only having had access to a high quality A Level programme, but with practical life-skills and an appreciation of different cultures and outlooks.

We are offering a number of fully funded scholarships into our Sixth Form from 2021 and will have space for 40 students to join us in September.

There are currently 100 students at the school, but we will grow to 250 over the next three to five years. Our intake for Sixth Form in September 2021 will be 40 and again in 2022.

Alongside embedding ourselves in the local community, we will develop an innovative international outlook, which
